ABSTRACT

@# Objective To explore the difference in lumbar proprioception between the youth and the elderly, and the male and the female. Methods From September to November, 2017, 58 elderly aged 65 to 80 years and 56 youth aged 20 to 30 years were randomly picked up from the community. Their lumbar proprioceptions were measured by Con-Trex isokinetic dynamometer. The absolute error angles of lumbar flexion and extension in passive replication test was used to assess lumbar proprioceptive function. Results The absolute error angles of passive replication test were less on youth proprioception than on elderly ones (t > 4.218, P < 0.001), either in men or women (t > 2.844, P < 0.001), and was not different between men and women neither in the elderly group nor in the youth group (t < 1.473, P > 0.05). Conclusion The lumbar proprioception in the elderly was obviously inferior to that of the youth, both men and women. There was no gender difference between men and women in lumbar proprioception, both elderly and youth.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND:Acute exercise is believed to regulate appetite and influence feeding behaviors by controling the synthesis and secretion of gastrointestinal peptide hormones to regulate appetite and feeding behavior influence, but the smal sample size leads to widely different results. OBJECTIVE:To clarify the effect of acute exercise on peptide YY levels in adults using Meta-analysis method. METHODS:A computer-based search of PubMed, Google Scholar, Sport Discus, Web of Knowledge and CNKI was performed for relevant articles published before January 2014. The literatures eligible were studied by evaluating the publication bias, checking the heterogeneity and analyzing the sensitivity by software of RevMan5.1. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1) There were a total of 188 participants in the 18 trials reported in 11 articles. The Meta-analysis results revealed a mean effect for acute exercise to increase peptide YY values (standardized mean difference=0.25, 95% confidence interval =0.05-0.46,P=0.01), and therefore, there was a significantly statistical difference in the peptide YY levels between the acute exercise group and control group (P< 0.05). Moreover, results from the sensitivity analysis showed no influences on the findings of Meta-analysis. (2) Five randomized controled trails in the three included articles were related to peptide YY (3-36). There was a maximal heterogeneity among these studies; therefore, a random-effect model was utilized. The result revealed a mean effect for acute exercise to increase peptide YY (3-36) values (standardized mean difference =1.80, 95% confidence interval =0.27-3.32,P=0.02). The findings from this meta-analysis show that acute exercise may influence appetite by increasing levels of peptide YY in adults.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND:Treatment programs for low back pain are of great varieties, but there is stil no a definite treatment. Pressure biofeedback instrument is a tool to measure abdominal muscle activity, and its reliability in the treatment of low back pain is less reported. OBJECTIVE:To explore the reliability and feasibility of the pressure biofeedback instrument for assessment of low back pain. METHODS:Thirty patients with chronic low back pain were enrol ed and subject to four kinds of postures:posture A was prone position;posture B was supine position with flexion of the knee joints, posture C was supine position with unilateral flexion of the hip and knee joint, posture D was prone position with unilateral shoulder flexion. Intra-abdominal pressure values under the different postures were measured twice within a week in the same subject. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to assess the reliability. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Posture A had good test-retest reliability, and the value of ICC was 0.853 (95%confidence interval:0.691-0.930);posture B showed moderate test-retest reliability, and the ICC value was 0.751 (95%confidence interval:0.477-0.882);posture C also had moderate test-retest reliability, and the ICC value was 0.789 (95%confidence interval:0.557-0.900), posture D had good test-retest reliability, and the value of ICC was 0.892 (95%confidence interval:0.641-0.919). Therefore, the pressure biofeedback for evaluation of low back pain has good reliability, which can be used for the evaluation of low back pain.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore any changes in surface electromyogram (sEMG) signals from the lumboabdominal muscles during exercise on stable and unstable surfaces. Methods sEMG signals from the lumbo-abdominal muscles of 33 healthy young persons [18 male and 12 female; average age (26.5 ± 4.3 ) years] were measured with the FlexComp Infiniti apparatus. Each subject performed 5 exercises on and off a Swiss ball:sit, bridge, bridge with both knees flexed, reverse bridge as well as press-up. Results ①In bridging there was a significant increase in the activation of the erector spinae during exercise on the ball compared with on the stable surface.②Bridging with both knees flexed gave a significant increase in activations of the erector spinae, the external obliques and the transverses abdominus/internal obliques during exercise on the unstable surface compared with the stable surface.③During reverse bridging there was a significant increase in activation of the erector spinae and rectus abdominus during exercise on the unstable surface compared with the stable surface.④During press-ups there was a significant increase in activation of the rectus abdominus, the external obliques and the transverses abdominus/internal obliques during exercise on the ball compared with the stable surface. Conclusion The unstable surface provides better training stimulus for the activation of the lumbo-abdominal muscles.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of a dual regulation of replicating adenovirus vector carrying human endostatin gene (AdTPHre-hEndo) on pancreatic cancer. Methods Human endostatin (hEndo) gene was cloned into the genome of replicating adenovirus specific for the tumor cells by virus recombination technology. The virus titer was 3.25 × 1010pfu/ml. A Balb/c nude mouse model carring sw1990 cells pancreatic cancer was established, the expression of human endostain and inhibition of tumor cells in vivo were detected. Results We successfully constructed AdTPHre-hEndo. The inhibition on pancreatic cancer cell line SW-1990 of AdTPHre-hEndo is better than Ad-hEndo (P <0. 01 ), and ONYX-015 ( P < 0. 05 ). The endostatin expression of AdTPHre-hEndo group was significantly higher than Ad-hEndo group and the control group (P < 0. 01 ). The intratumoral MVD also decreased significantly in the treated tumors(6. 8 ±2. 5 vs. 16. 0 ±4. 6、47. 2 ± 10. 0, P <0. 01 ). Conclusions The recombination adenovirus can express biologically active hEndo effectively, which results in inhibiting the growth of micro-blood vessels and proliferation slowly.
